Independent MLA joins Congress

ROHTAK, APRIL 29. The Congress in Haryana has got yet another shot in arm with an independent MLA supporting the Om Prakash Chautala-led Indian National Lok Dal government joining the Congress.

Mr Daryao Singh Rajoura, who represents Jhajjar (R) segment of Rohtak Lok Sabha constituency, joined the Congress last night at an election rally. The rally was addressed among others by Congress Legislature Party and Opposition Leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who is seeking election from Rohtak Lok Sabha constituency and former Haryana Youth Congress president Chakravarty Sharma.

Mr Rajoura is the third independent and fifth MLA to switch his loyalty to the Congress since the announcement of Lok Sabha elections. Earlier independent MLAs Uday Bhan (Hassanpur-R) and Tejbir Singh (Pundri), RPI MLA Karan Singh Dalal (Palwal) and Nationalist Congress Party MLA Jagjit Singh Sangwan (Dadri) had joined the Congress. With Mr Rajoura joining, the strength of the Congress Legislature Party in the 90-member Haryana Vidhan Sabha has risen to 25. Till recently, all the 11 independent MLAs were supporting the Chautala government. -- UNI
