THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, APRIL 29. Artist Namboodiri has been selected for the Raja Ravi Varma Award for the year 2003. The award, instituted by the State Government, is given annually to persons who have made outstanding contributions to the field of painting and sculpture in the State. Announcing the award at a press conference here today, on the birth anniversary of Raja Ravi Varma, G. Karthikeyan, Minister for Cultural Affairs, said the winner would be presented a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, a citation and a statuette designed by Kanayi Kunhiraman. It was a jury chaired by M. Thomas Mathew and comprising K.K. Marar, T.A.S. Menon, Kanayi Kunhiraman, and E.K. Bharat Bhushan, Secretary, Department of Culture, that selected Mr. Namboodiri for the award. The award was instituted in 2001. The earlier winners are M.V. Devan in 2001 and A. Ramachandran the following year.
