Mahajan rules out tie-up with Samajwadi Party

ETAH (U.P.), APRIL 29. Ruling out any `friendship' with Samajwadi Party, BJP leader Pramod Mahajan today lashed out at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav asking how he could think of becoming Prime Minister with only `20 MPs'.

``Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav is nursing Prime Ministerial aspirations. How can a man who may have the support of only 20 MPs hope to become the Prime Minister of India? If Mulayam is serious, he should have resigned from the Chief Ministership and contested the elections," he said, addressing a rally here.

Charging SP with ``misrule'' in the State, Mr. Mahajan said ``people of U.P. had enough of goondas and mafias''.

Stating that there were ``no chances'' of friendship with Samajwadi Party, he said ``we would be successful in the polls and would not require to enter into any alliance''.

Earlier in Kanpur, Mr. Mahajan parried questions on a tie-up with SP, saying ``it was too early to say anything.''

Maintaining that the NDA was going to sweep the Lok Sabha election as ``indicated'' after the end of two phases of polling, he told reporters that ``it is the smaller groups that are talking about a hung Lok Sabha.'' -- PTI
