Ratnakaran emerges champion
KOZHIKODE,
APRIL 29.
Top seed and local lad K. Ratnakaran regained the State `A' chess championship at the Chess India Complex here on Thursday. He finished with eight points from nine rounds, winning seven games and drawing two. Earlier in the day, his string of straight wins was broken by P. Sreekumar of Thiruvananthapuram, who held him to a draw in the eighth round. O.T. Anil Kumar of the host finished runner-up with seven points.The top four, an all-Kozhikode team, will represent Kerala in the next National `B' championship.
Important results (ninth round): V. Rajith (Klm) 6 drew with K. Ratnakaran (Kzde) 8; O.T. Anil Kumar (Kzde) 7 drew with N. Abdul Majeed (Kzde) 6.5; N. Jyothilal (Kzde) 6.5 drew with U.C.
