Holiday declared

NEW DELHI APRIL 29. On account of Prophet Mohammed's birthday, Milad-Un-Nabi, the Delhi Government has declared a holiday on May 3 under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

Congress demonstration

NEW DELHI APRIL 29. Protesting against what is called the "biased attitude" of the police against the Congress candidates contesting the Lok Sabha elections, the Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress today staged a demonstration outside the Police Headquarters. Members of the Youth Congress also submitted a memorandum to the Police Commissioner, K.K Paul, asking him "to end favours being doled out to the Bharatiya Janata Party candidates".

Addressing the protestors, the Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress chief, Rajesh Lilothia, alleged that police along with BJP workers had torn hoardings belonging to R.K Anand, the Congress candidate for South Delhi, on Jail Road and Jai Road last night. "These hoardings were pasted on a private property and the police has no power to remove them as they were not on a public property and do not violate the West Bengal Public Property Defacement Act."

Demanding that prompt action be taken against erring police officials, Mr. Lilothia alleged that the police were being "undemocratic and working partially under the influence of the BJP-led Government".

Eye camp inaugurated

NEW DELHI APRIL 29. The Bharatiya Janata Party's East Delhi candidate, Lal Bihari Tiwari, inaugurated a free eye camp at Tagore Public School here recently. The camp was organised by a social service organisation, Tarun Mitra Parishad, in association with the Mitra Sangam, Delhi.

Appreciating the efforts made by the Tarun Mitra Parishad in organising the eye camp, Mr. Tiwari blessed the former for rendering selfless service to the weaker and downtrodden sections of the society.

On the occasion, the Delhi Education and Tourism minister, Arvinder Singh Lovely, said that the Government couldn't achieve its target without the co-operation of social organisations.

Seminar on victory over fascism

NEW DELHI APRIL 29. To mark the 59th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) organised a seminar titled "Influence of the Victory over Fascism in the Second World War on History of South Asian Countries" here recently. This seminar was organised in association with the Indian Association of Friendship with Foreign Countries.

Inaugurating the seminar, the Jawaharlal Nehru University Vice-Chancellor, Professor G.K. Chaddha, highlighted the positive impact of the victory on the political and economic development of South Asian countries.

Presiding over the seminar, the Chairman of Maulana Azad College, Professor Devendra Kaushik, elaborated on the decisive aspects of victory over fascism that gave a new impetus to the national liberation movement in the Indian sub-continent.

New office-bearers

NEW DELHI APRIL 29. The Delhi Advertising Club held its annual general meeting and elections here on Wednesday.

While V.K. Chopra of "The Bombay Samachar" was elected as the President, Suresh Verma, and Man Mohan Gupta were elected vice-presidents.

On the occasion, Mr. Chopra announced a number of new professional activities in the Delhi Advertising Club and also emphasised on membership promotion. The newly elected honorary secretary, Narinder Sharma, announced activities like ad seminars, advertising lectures and advertising and marketing quiz.
