Collector's directive

KOCHI, APRIL 29. The District Collector has restricted the movement of people, other than officials concerned, inside the polling booth or 100 metres around it during the Lok Sabha elections on May 10. Candidates, their agents and the public are not to be found in possession of or using cordless or cellular phones at the polling booths or counting centres, failing which the instruments would be confiscated, said a press release from the Collector here today.

Cusat test

The Cochin University for Science and Technology's (Cusat) Common Admission Test (CAT) for applicants from the Middle East will be held at the Gulf Model School in Dubai on May 4. The mathematics test will be from 9.30 a.m. to 11 a.m. (according to IST) and Physics-Chemistry test will be from 11.15 a.m. to 12.45 p.m., said an official press release issued here today.

Traffic diversion

Heavy vehicles going from Kochi to Kozhikode should take a left turn from Edapally bypass junction and take the route through the Varapuzha Bridge. They should then join the National Highway 17 and proceed through Paravur, Chavakkad and Kunnamkulam. Vehicles going to Palakkad should go through the Thrissur bypass and Mannuthy.

Registration for wells

Those who are expected to register wells fitted with pumps, in accordance with the Kerala Ground Water (Control and Regulation) Act 2002, should do so in the prescribed form before May 13, said the District Ground Water Officer here today. Owners of wells fitted with electric motors or fuel-using pumps with more than 1.5 HP, or borewells fitted with electric motors or fuel-using pumps with more than 3 HP, are also expected to register. Completed applications forms along with court fee stamp worth Rs. 5, should reach the district office directly or by registered post. Applications should be sent to District Officer, Ground Water Department, Civil Station, Kakkanad, Ernakulam 682030. The application forms are available at panchayat and municipal offices, and at the office of the Ground Water Department.

Platinum Jubilee

The purpose of education should be to stimulate the creative energy of students, said the Vice-Chancellor of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, K.N. Panikkar, here today. Inaugurating the Central Board of Secondary Education Platinum Jubilee Regional Conference of Principals at Avenue Centre here, Dr. Panikkar said that children should have links with the past to understand and improve the present. More than 150 principals from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are attending the two-day conference.

Last date extended

The last date for submitting applications for State and district-level awards for the Prime Minister's Rozgar Yojana (PMRY) beneficiaries have been extended to May 15, said the general manager of District Industries Centre, Ernakulam, B.
