CHANDIGARH, APRIL 30. Haryana experienced the highest ever poll percentage of 73.26 for Lok Sabha elections in 1977 when only 50 candidates, including two women, had contested the elections. And the lowest poll percentage of 63.68 was recorded in 1999, when 114 candidates, including three women, were in the fray. The poll percentage was 72.61 in 1967, 64.35 in 1971, 64.76 in 1980, 66.84 in 1984, 64.41 in 1989, 65.84 in 1991, 70.48 in 1996 and 68.99 in 1998. There are 1,22,57,402 voters including 56,37,980 women in Haryana who will decide the political fate of 160 candidates, including eight women, on May 10. A maximum number of 15,46,578 electors are in Faridabad constituency; 14,29,015 in Mohindergarh; 12,40,336 in Karnal; 12,19,935 in Sirsa (SC); 11,99,338 in Ambala (SC); 11,92,271 in Bhiwani;11,61,930 in Kurukshetra; 11,38,771 in Sonepat; 1136593 in Hisar; and 10,55,610 in Rohtak. The Mewla Maharajpur Assembly segment of Faridabad Parliamentary constituency is the largest segment in Haryana in terms of electors. It has 1,69,875 male electors and 1,36,877 female electors, followed by Gurgaon with 1,36,824 male electors and 1,19,634 female electors. Karnal and Sonepat are two such Parliamentary constituencies in Haryana from where a maximum of six women each have so far contested the Lok Sabha elections ever since the General Elections were first held in the State in 1967. Sirsa Parliamentary constituency has witnessed only two women contesting Lok Sabha elections since 1967.Out of a total of eight women candidates in fray for the ongoing polls, one woman each is contesting from Ambala (SC), Karnal, Sonepat, Bhiwani, Mahendragarh and three from Rohtak constituencies. It was during the Lok Sabha elections of 1984 that a maximum of 10 women candidates had contested from various constituencies followed by nine in 1996 and six each in 1991 and 1998. As many as five women candidates had contested in 1980 and three each in 1989 and 1999 and two in 1977. Only one woman candidate had contested in 1967.
