KOCHI, APRIL 30. The Cochin University of Science and Technology has decided to start para-medical courses for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students from this academic year onwards. The decision to start the courses was taken at the Syndicate meeting held here today. K.K. Mohammed Yusuff, faculty member, will be the Director of the para-medical courses. A. Aravindakshan, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Head of the Department of Hindi, has been given charge as Registrar of the university. The Syndicate meeting lauded the services rendered by the Registrar, K.V. Kunhikrishnan, who retired from service today. Dr. Kunhikrishnan will be given an official send-off during the next meeting of the Syndicate. The Syndicate also decided to issue a notification seeking applications for the post of Registrar. It was recommended at the meeting that the university rules be followed for the selection of Registrar. The Syndicate discussed a complaint submitted by C.A. Francis, faculty member of the School of Management Studies, against the appointment of a faculty member, P.R. Wilson, as Director of the School. The meeting suggested that legal opinion be sought on this issue. The Syndicate decided to appoint a three-member sub-committee to consider allotment of orders to a private company for purchase of computers under the campus-networking project introduced in the university as part of a joint programme in higher education between the Cochin University and the Netherlands Government.
