Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, MAY 1. Members of trade unions today celebrated May Day by holding rallies, cycle processions, hoisting union flags and holding meetings at various centres in Pondicherry. Public meetings were held focussing problems of industrial and farm labourers. There was a plea that the government-run Anglo French Textile mill be modernised so that more job opportunities would be available. The union leaders sought action to prevent the move of the National Textiles Corporation to liquidate the Swadeshi Cotton Mills. There was also a request that the award finalised by the Special Industrial Tribunal for the workers of the AFT mill be implemented without delay.
