Double murder, suicide create flutter

By Our Correspondent

ADILABAD, MAY 1. Two murders and a suicide at Manjulapur village in the wee hours of Saturday rocked an otherwise calm mandal headquarters town of Nirmal.

The Nirmal DSP, Vidyasagar Rao, told The Hindu that Erigatla Rajeshwar of Chintalchanda village of Laxmanchanda mandal and Deva Ravi were colleagues in a factory at Dubai. A year ago, Rajeshwar returned his native village.

Rajeshwar visited the house of Ravi's in-laws at Ambedkarnagar in Manjulapur of Nirmal mandal where Ravi's wife Amruta was living with her three children. He `developed' contacts with Amruta, which allegedly turned into love later. Ravi returned from the Gulf only to know about the affair.

When Amruta opted to stay with Rajeshwar, community elders resolved this dispute by resorting to separation of husband and wife. Subsequently Amruta and Rajeshwar went to Chennai where he worked as a private security guard, earning Rs. 2,500 a month. As the amount was not enough to live comfortably, Rajeshwar sold some of Amruta's gold. As their woes mounted, Amruta left Rajeshwar and returned Manjulapur a month ago.

In the wee hours of Saturday, Rajeshwar came to the village and knocked on the door of the house of the parents of Amruta -- Deva Nadipi Muthyam and Barla Devaraju. Vijay Kumar, a cousin of Amruta was sleeping with her parents while she was sleeping in an inside room. The three entered into an argument with Rajeshwar. The latter allegedly took out a knife and attacked the three. While Amruta's parents died on the spot Vijay Kumar was shifted to Nizamabad where he is stated to be out of danger.

Later, Rajeshwar consumed insecticide which he brought with him and died. He left a note stating that he wanted to commit suicide after killing Amruta.
