May Day celebrated

KOCHI, MAY 1. Rallies, family meetings and cultural events marked the May Day celebrations at many places in the city today.

Hundreds of workers participated in a rally that began from Rajendra Maidan in the morning. The rally organised by the combine of trade unions concluded at the High Court junction. The CITU secretary, M.M. Lawrence, inaugurated a meeting held at the High Court junction in connection with the celebrations.

The CITU State president, K.N. Raveendranath, inaugurated a public meeting held at Kakkanad.

K.Chandran Pillai, MP, inaugurated a family meeting organised by the railway employees at Sikshak Sadan. The meeting was organised jointly by the Dakshin Railway Employees Union (DREU), All-India Loco Running Staff Association (AILRSA), All-India Guards Council (AIGC), All-India Station Masters Association (AISMA) and Indian Railway Ticket Checking Staff Organisation (IRTCSO).

The meeting discussed various issues faced by railway employees in the country. Cultural programmes were also organised at the meeting.

May Day rallies were held at 14 centres in the district today. Hundreds of workers in the industrial and agricultural sectors participated in these rallies. Public meetings were also held at these centres as part of the celebrations.
