`NDA, symbol of opportunism'

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, MAY 1. The Congress today trained its guns on the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership for accusing it of being power hungry. Briefing mediapersons here, the party spokesman, Anand Sharma, said the Congress was only exercising its democratic right to contest an election.

"Our agenda is not to capture power, but to rid this country of the inept and corrupt National Democratic Alliance which is a symbol of political opportunism and a vehicle of power politics,'' Mr. Sharma said to the BJP charge that the Congress was only interested in grabbing power.

About the Congress campaign, Mr. Sharma said the party president, Sonia Gandhi, alone had clocked 58,000 km. This apart, several senior leaders of the party including its various Chief Ministers were criss-crossing the country campaigning.
