KOCHI, MAY 1. Another lot of SIM cards for the pre-paid mobile service registrations made by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) in February this year will be distributed in the coming week. About 20,000 cards will be given away before May 10, said the general manager, Mobile Services, K.V. Balasubramanian. The rest of the cards would be given only in June when the expansion work of the intelligent network (IN) services based in Tiruchi will be completed. "The work is expected to be completed by May end," he added. The BSNL had distributed about 16,000 SIM cards earlier against the bookings made in February. A total of 1.8 lakh bookings were received for pre-paid connections. Regarding the installation of Base Terminal Stations (BTS), he said that around 20 of them are being set up apart from the 373 BTS planned to be installed later. Sites for 134 BTS have been acquired. Already 361 BTS are existing and the mobile switching systems set up at Thrissur and Ernakulam are functioning, Mr. Balasubramanian said.
