The President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, paying his respects to the Madhya Pradesh Governor, Ram Prakash Gupta, who passed away in New Delhi on Saturday.
NEW DELHI, MAY 1 . The President, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, has condoled the death of the Madhya Pradesh Governor and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Ram Prakash Gupta, in New Delhi today. ``Mr. Gupta had to his credit many years of public service in various capacities which included the post of Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh." The Bharatiya Janata Party expressed shock over the death of Mr. Gupta and described it as a great loss to the party and the country. The Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, in his message, said: ``He was an able and dedicated Lok Sevak in different capacities, including that of the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh." The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mulayam Singh Yadav, expressed profound grief over the death said "Mr. Gupta believed in simple living and high thinking and never compromised on his principles." The Rajasthan Governor, Madanlal Khurana, and Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje, also condoled the death of Mr. Gupta. The Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator, Justice O. P. Verma; the Gujarat Governor, Kailashpati Mishra; the Maharashtra Governor, Mohammad Fazal, and the Goa Governor, Kidar Nath Sahni, expressed grief over his sudden demise. The mortal remains of Mr. Gupta will be consigned to the flames in Lucknow tomorrow. A week-long mourning will be observed in Madhya Pradesh. UNI
