NEW DELHI, MAY 1. To uphold the right to protest and oppose all moves to curb the right to strike, May Day saw a large number of the Capital's working class participate in a march today. The march led by the Delhi Committee of the Indian Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU) began from Mandi House and concluded at Jantar Mantar where it was converted into a public meeting. Criticising the Supreme Court for its "attack on the right to strike" and the Delhi High Court for imposing stay on holding dharnas, demonstrations and mass meetings outside government hospitals, the IFTU's national secretary, V.P.Patole, lamented that these attacks were "part and parcel of the process of implementation of International Monetary Fund, World Bank and World Trade Organisation-sponsored new economic policies".
