Effluent plant to seek aid for reverse osmosis project
By Our Staff Reporter
PERUNDURAI,
MAY 1.
The common effluent treatment plant (CETP), set up to treat effluent generated by textile processing units at the SIPCOT (State Industries' Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu) industrial growth centre here, is likely to seek assistance under the Textile Centres Infrastructure Development Scheme (TCIDS) for its reverse osmosis project. Sources in the CETP told The Hindu it was decided to go in for the reverse osmosis facility so that about 85 per cent of the effluent received by the CETP could be treated and reused by the units.
Hence, it was decided to set up the facility with a capacity of 10-lakh litres a day as a pilot project and later set up three similar units (each of 10-lakh litres a day capacity). The sources pointed out that water was one of the main raw materials for the units and those located in the centre were spending about Rs. 20 for 1,000 litres of water.
