Kollam in semifinals
KOLLAM,
MAY 1.
Host Kollam and defending champion Kannur moved into the semifinals in boy's section of the seventh State mini handball championships at the Quilon Athletic Club here on Saturday. Kannur kept a clean slate to top pool `A' while Kollam made the grade as the top team from pool `B'. Thrissur and Ernakulam also qualified for the semifinals.
In the girl's section, holder Kannur and Kollam moved into the semifinals after winning their respective pools. Kasargode (in pool `A') and Thiruvananthapuram (in pool `B') also moved into the last four stage of the championship.
The results:
Boys: Pool `A': Kannur bt Thrissur 14-3; Thrissur bt Idukki 4-3; Idukki bt Kottayam 5-0, Kannur bt Kottayam 8-0, Kannur bt Idukki 5-1.
Pool `B': Kollam bt Kasargode 8-5, Kasargode bt Thiruvananthapuram 12-10, Ernakulam bt Pathanamthitta 6-4; Thiruvananthapuram bt Pathanamthitta 6-5; Ernakulam bt Kasargode 10-8, Kollam bt Pathanamthitta 8-2; Kasargode bt Pathanamthitta 9-5; Kollam bt Thiruvananthapuram 12-4; Ernakulam bt Thiruvananthapuram 9-5; Kollam bt Ernakulam 10-9.
Girls: Pool `A': Kannur bt Kasargode 8-5; Kasargode bt Idukki 5-0; Kannur bt Idukki 6-1. Pool `B': Thiruvananthapuram bt Thrissur 4-3; Kollam bt Thrissur 6-0; Kollam bt Thiruvananthapuram 6-1.
