Govt. allows COMED-K to go ahead with all-India test

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, MAY 1. The State Government on Friday gave its nod to the Consortium of Medical, Engineering, and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K) to go ahead with its all-India admission test to fill the undergraduate seats in the management quota in its member colleges. The Venkataraman Committee, overseeing professional college admissions, had earlier nullified a COMED-K notification on the test scheduled for May 14, 15, and 22.

According to an official press release, the committee, which met here on Friday, decided to permit the Medical, Dental, and Engineering Colleges' Associations to accept the applications received on the basis of the COMED-K notification.

"The committee took into consideration the categorical assurance made by the President of Karnataka Private Medical Colleges' Association and the Karnataka Un-aided Private Engineering Colleges' Association that the associations hold themselves wholly responsible for all actions of COMED-K. It also considered the inconvenience that may be caused to the students who have already applied," the release added.

The COMED-K chairman, R.L. Jalappa, had met the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, on Thursday to discuss this and other issues related to professional college admissions. Over 15,000 students have already applied for the COMED-K test.
