British government reiterates it will not stop Zimbabwe tour

LONDON, MAY 1. Foreign Secretary Jack Straw says the British government still has no intention of stopping England's cricket tour of Zimbabwe next autumn. In a letter to his counterpart in the opposition Conservative Party, Michael Ancram, on Friday, Straw said the government was opposed to the tour because of the repressive policies of Robert Mugabe's regime. "We have made clear — as I believe have the ECB — that we would prefer the tour to be postponed so long as circumstances continue as they are in Zimbabwe," Straw wrote. — AP
