CHENNAI, MAY 1. Tributes were paid to drama artiste Kathadi S. Ramamurthy on his completing 50 years theatre at a function here today. Cho S. Ramasamy, journalist and political commentator, who inaugurated the 13th Nataka Utsav and the golden jubilee celebrations of the artiste, said Mr. Ramamurthy was known for his "natural humour." Mr. Ramasamy wanted more sabhas and cultural academies to encourage this "lively" art form. Honouring the artiste with a ponnadai, he said Mr.Ramamurthy was still an inspiration to the younger generation. Nalli Kuppusamy Chetty, who lit a traditional lamp, praised Mr. Ramamurthy for founding Stage Creations in 1964 to promote the talent of drama artistes. R. Krishnaswamy, secretary, Narada Gana Sabha, said it was befitting that on May Day, Mr.Ramamurthy was being honoured as he worked hard to rise from a humble beginning. A. Natarajan, former Director, Doordarshan Kendra, Chennai, said television was one of the prime media, which extended a helping hand to Mr. Ramamurthy, televising his stage performances. Raadhu, secretary, Nataka Academy, thanked the Narada Gana Sabha for coming forward to play host to Mr. Ramamurthy's drama series from May 1 to 10.
