MANGALORE, MAY 1. The Mangalore East (Kadri) police on Friday arrested two persons in connection with the theft of Rs. 40,000 from a hotel near Bunts Hostel here about a fortnight ago. They gave the names of the accused as Suresh Pattaje (21), a resident of Paduperar village near Bajpe in Mangalore taluk, and Sarvotham (27) of Herga village in Udupi taluk. An official press release said the owner of the hotel, on directions from the police, kept a watch on his staff and handed over Suresh and Sarvotham to the police as he suspected their involvement in the theft. The accused reportedly confessed to their crime during interrogation, leading to the recovery of Rs. 15,803 from their possession. Police also recovered two mobile phones valued at Rs. 10,000 which had been bought from the stolen money, the release said.
