Preacher favours modest Id celebrations

By Our Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE, MAY 1. Al Hafeez Abdul Majidil Mani Al Azhari, preacher, Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs, and Oukhaf, Abu Dhabi, has called upon Muslim religious leaders in India to rethink about taking out processions as part of the Id Milad celebrations.

Noting that Muslims world over celebrated Id in a befitting manner, he said the practise of taking out processions was unique to India.

Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, Dr. Al Azhari noted that Muslims in more than 50 nations were observing Id.

While the celebrations were State-sponsored in Muslim nations, the practise of taking out processions in India could disrupt the daily routine of others, he said.

Noting that processions disrupted traffic, thereby, causing inconvenience to people, he said any celebration that resulted in inconvenience to others was abhorred by the Prophet. Revealing that he had witnessed Id celebrations in many Islamic nations, including Cairo, Dr. Al Azhari said it was hard to find such processions there.
