MANGALORE, MAY 1. The Dakshina Kannada Telecom of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) has clarified that calls made from landlines to Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) phones should not be treated as STD calls. The Dakshina Kannada Telecom Booth Operators' Association, in a press release, had stated that calls made from landlines in the district to "Reliance WLL" phones would be treated as STD calls. The Principal General Manager of Dakshina Kannada Telecom, K.J. Chacko, who assumed additional charge as Chief General Manager, Karnataka Telecom Circle, on Friday, told The Hindu that the department would initiate action against booth operators who would charge STD rates for calls made from landlines to WLL phones. Mr. Chacko said all calls made from the landline to WLL phones would be charged at a pulse rate of 90 seconds in places where point of inter-connection was present and at a pulse rate of 60 seconds in other places. Mr. Chacko clarified that once "Reliance WLL" changed its numbering scheme to 10 digits on a par with GSM phones, the calls would be charged at a pulse rate of 60 second in places where point of inter-connection was present and at a pulse rate of 30 seconds in other places. He also added that booth operators had not been permitted to levy service charge on local calls.
