THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 1. Six of a family, including two children, were injured when lightning struck their house at Karakulam in Nedumangadu police station limits on Saturday afternoon. Police identified the injured persons as Safeela (30), Taha (35), Hamsa Beevi (55), Subaida (58) Alitha (2) and Alsea (4). All are under treatment at the MCH here. Their condition was reported to be stable. Police said the family was inside the house when lightning struck the building at around 2-30 p.m. The house was totally damaged in the strike and electronic goods damaged. Neighbours rushed the victims to the Nedumangadu hospital. They were later removed to the MCH here. Food poisoning: Four girls who ate mushrooms for lunch were admitted to the MCH with symptoms of food poisoning. Hospital authorities said Kavitha (20), Santhi Krishna (13), Dhanalakshmi (18) and Baby Krishna (16), all residents of Anthiyoorkonam in Malayankeezhu, had been admitted after they complained of stomach pain and vomiting. The girls had found the mushrooms while going for a dip in the nearby river. Vegetable vendor held: The Fort police have arrested a 23-year-old vegetable vendor at Killipalam on the charge of peddling ganja. Police said nearly 500 gm of ganja was recovered from the shop of the accused, Binu, a resident of Karimadam colony. Police also arrested Krishnamma (52) on charges of retailing illicit spirit. An official said five litres of spirit was seized from her. Arms Act violation: The Rural police have arrested four youth who were allegedly found scouring the Kazhakottam area in a maruti van with swords. Police identified the accused as Mathew Joseph (29) of Nalanchira, Binukumar (22) of Prasanth Nagar, Prasanth (23) of Kattakada and Suresh (25) of Pathanamthitta. All were produced before the Attingal Judicial First class magistrate court on charges of violation of the Arms Act and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody. Man, wife arrested: The Rural police have arrested a 40-year-old man and his wife on charges of attempting to murder two youth. Police identified the accused as Raveendran Pillai and his wife, Usha Kumar (34). An official said the accused had hacked two youth, Rajesh and Chandran Asari, at Kilimanoor on the charge that they had mocked at the couple.
