CHENNAI, MAY 1. The sky will be partly cloudy on Sunday and there is a possibility of shower or thundershower in some areas of the city.

On Saturday, Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 35.1 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 27.

Meenambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 35.8 and a minimum of 27 degree Celsius. Humidity stood at 69 and 64 per cent.

RPF conducts drive

The Chennai Division Railway Protection Force conducted a special drive on running trains and railway premises against touts in reservation centres, unauthorised vendors, and footboard travellers, and also to book those found smoking on railway premises.

A total of 13,644 cases were booked in the last 90 days and a fine Rs. 31.33 lakhs was realised from them, says a RPF release.

Demonstration

About 250 students of J.A.Engineering College, Koyambedu, went on hunger-strike demanding transfer to other educational institutions as the recognition of their college has been cancelled by Anna University.

Other demands of the students who staged the fast on Friday, included the immediate release of semester examination results withheld earlier.

Relief

granted

A sum of Rs. 1 lakh was given to the relatives of film artiste, Martin, who was drowned during shooting of the film, Gajendra, at Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh. The film's producer, V.A. Durai, provided the relief fund to the family.

Martin fell off a boat in which he was travelling during the shooting recently and his body was retrieved later.
