Bidar
By Our Staff Correspondent
BIDAR, MAY 2. The Government has taken steps to supply water to Dailts of Enakur, who have been facing a social boycott for over a year now. The Assistant Commissioner, Vijay Shankar, announced at a meeting of Lingayat and Dalit leaders held in Bhalki on Friday, that a separate borewell would be drilled to supply water to the Dalit colony at Enakur. He said the two controversial watermen in the village, one who faced allegation of favouring the Dalits and the other of discriminating against them, would be replaced. The official urged the two groups to approach the administration in case of any differences instead of taking the law into their hands. He appealed to the groups to live in harmony. The law would take its own course on the case under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act, filed against some Lingayat leaders in the village, he said. Meanwhile, some Dalits complained that some people had asked them to withdraw the case and threatened to lodge complaints against them for filing a "false case". Gousuddin, a gram panchayat member, Kashinath Rudrappa, Sharanappa Bheemanna, Goutam Hallikhed, Rajkumar Hallikhed, Vithal Manik, and Sanjiv Kumar Tukkappa, village elders attended the meeting. Earlier, Mr. Shankar, accompanied by the Tahasildar, Heera Rathod, and the Deputy Superintendent of Police, S.R. Rathod, visited the village.
