CUDDAPAH, MAY. 2. The social welfare hostels in the district achieved a 80.9 pass percentage in the SSC public examinations which was higher than in the previous year, the Deputy Director of Social Welfare, R. Venugopala Rao, said on Sunday. In all, 618 SSC students of 26 boys hostels and seven girls hostels appeared for the exam in the district and of them, 500 passed out, he said in a statement. While 277 hostellers passed in first division, 163 passed in second division and 60 in third division. During 2002-03, 410 of the 649 SSC students in hostels passed SSC registering 63 per cent. The 80.9 pass percentage in social welfare hostels was higher than the 80.29 pass percentage in the State and 73.83 per cent in the district, Mr. Venugopala Rao stated. Seven hostels recorded a cent per cent pass and 21 more hostels secured over 75 per cent result. The pass percentage in girls hostels was 86.2 with 81 out of 94 students passing SSC. A hosteller of Proddatur, P. Kishore, topped the hosteliers in the district by securing 558 marks and a student of Badvel, Ravindra, stood second by bagging 542 marks, he said. ANANTAPUR: The students of social welfare, tribal welfare and backward classes welfare hostels in the district have achieved good results in the SSC examination this year. The district Collector, Y.V. Anuradha, has complimented them for showing improvement. Against the pass percentage of 71.04 in the district the social welfare hostels achieved 71.37 per cent success this year. It was just 57.5 last year. Similarly, the tribal welfare hostel students have achieved 76.77 pass percentage this year against 53.55 per cent last year.
