12 killed in road accidents near Tirupati

TIRUPATI, MAY 2. Twelve persons were killed in two road accidents near here today. The victims belonged to Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

In an accident that took place in the early hours, a jeep rammed into a car near the Sri Venkateswara zoo park on Saluva Narasimharaya Road (Alipiri-Cherlopally bypass), killing all the six members of the Rajahmundry-based pilgrim party travelling in the car. The pilgrims were proceeding to the Srinivasa Mangapuram. The fully loaded jeep was coming towards Tirupati from Madikere in Karnataka. Bharat Raj (6) travelling in the vehicle succumbed to injuries at the SVIMS, while nine others are recovering at the Ruia Hospital.

In another accident at Agarala, on the Bangalore highway, a jeep coming from Paradarami near Gudiyatham (Tamil Nadu) rammed into a stationary APSRTC bus from behind, killing five of a family.

A report from Nalgonda said two youngsters were killed when their scooter was hit by a car at Gollagudem on the outskirts of the town.
