CHANDIGARH, MAY 2. The Shiromani Akali Dal today clarified that it had not extended any support to the Indian National Lok Dal candidate, Harmohan Dhawan. A statement issued by the Secretary of the Akali Dal, Daljit Singh Cheema, said that Mr.Satya Pal Jain was the "common candidate'' of the BJP-SAD alliance in Chandigarh. Dr.Cheema stated that he was issuing the press note on the direction of the Akali Dal President, Prakash Singh Badal, and clarified that no separate direction had been issued to any individual to issue any statement on behalf of the party. He was reacting to the announcement made by the local Akai Dal President, Gur Pratap Singh Riar, that he had been authorised to extend support to Mr.Dhawan.
