Suraj, Pallavi ahead

BANGALORE, MAY 2. Local lad M. Suraj emerged the sole leader with 5.5 points at the end of the sixth and penultimate round in the boys' section of the State sub-junior chess championship here today. Suraj beat overnight leader Arjun Sarja of Shimoga.

In the girls' category, Mangalore's Pallavi led the field with four points, from as many rounds, after a crucial win over Priyanka. G. Pratheeka, also of Mangalore, was in the second spot with 3.5 after beating team-mate Soumya.

The results:

Boys (sixth round): M. Suraj (5.5) bt Arjun Sarja (4.5); Prajwal D'Silva (4.5) drew with A.D. Sarma (4.5); Anil S. Shetty (4) lost to Vinayak Kulkarni (4.5); T.C. Suhas (4) lost to Vishwas Sarla (5); M. Vigram (3) lost to P.S. Sachin (4.5); Kishan G. (3.5) lost to Balkishen (4.5); S. Vikram (4) drew with Sunil Shetty (4); G.A. Stany (4) bt Sachin Bhargava (3); Kiran Karant (3) lost to Prajwal Salian (4); R. Nagesh (3.5) drew with Pradyudmna (3.5).

Girls (fourth round): Pallavi Maiya (4) bt Priyanka (3); Soumya Shree (2.5) lost to Pratheeka (3.5); N. Swathi (3) bt Pavitra Jagtap (2); Spoorthi Pai (3) bt M. Priyadarshini (2); Nisha Patkar (2) lost to Lora Pinto (3); Orol Pinto (3) bt Soumya (2).
