Bobby Aloysius wins British University title
NEW DELHI,
MAY 2.
Bobby Aloysius won the high jump title at the British Universities athletics championships at Gateshead on Saturday with a clearance of 1.84 metres.
Bobby bettered the meet record set by Lee McConnell in 1999, that of 1.80, in the process, according to information received here.
The Indian record-holder was competing in her first outdoor meet of the season and felt happy with her performance. She had just returned from Spain after a two-week training programme, and travelled by road for five hours to be in a position to participate at Gateshead.
Bobby is planning to compete in several meets in Europe during the next three months in her bid to gain the qualifying standard for the Olympics, that has been pegged at 1.91m, a centimetre above her National record.
"I am targeting 1.86 to 1.87 in May, 1.89 to 1.91 in June and 1.91 to 1.93 in July,'' said Bobby in a message on Sunday.
