'Sri Lanka sought mediation'

NEYVELI, MAY 2. The External Affairs Minister, Yashwant Sinha, said here today that Sri Lanka had sought a greater role for India in the peace talks with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Sinha said the Sri Lankan leader, Lakshman Kadirgamar, had put forth this view when he met him recently. Mr. Kadirgamar had observed that for the first time all sections in Sri Lanka wanted India's mediation.
