Media camp

for children

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 2. The Minister for Cultural Affairs, G. Karthikeyan, today inaugurated a visual medium awareness camp organised by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy. The children participating in the camp underwent training in singing this morning, followed by a story-telling session. A session for folk arts was also part of the programme. The second batch of the awareness camp will commence on May 12. The last date for admission is May 10.

Workshop

The drama camp being organised jointly by Geethanjali Theatres and the Jawahar Bal Bhavan will be inaugurated on Monday at 11-30 a.m. at the Bal Bhavan by actor Madhu. Actor Jagannathan will lead the 10-day camp. At the end of the camp, there will be a drama presentations by the children who participated in the camp. Each day of the camp will be dedicated to the memory of late actors and playwrights such as N. Krishna Pillai, T.N. Gopinathan Nair, Thoppil Bhasi, G. Sankara Pillai, Karamana Janardhanan Nair, P.K. Vikraman Nair and Jagathy N.K. Achari, among others.

Debate forum The Union Minister of State for Defence, O. Rajagopal, has said the collective conscience of society should rise against drug abuse among the people— something that destroys individuals and families. He was inaugurating the `Prathikarana Charchavedi' organised by ADIC-India in the city today. It is difficult to do away with social evils by just framing laws; the whole-hearted cooperation of society is needed for the same, he said.

Pat for BSF

It is because of the tireless duty performed by the Border Security Force (BSF) that Indians, to a large extent, are experiencing freedom today, the Union Minister, O. Rajagopal, has said. He was inaugurating the district conference of the Ex-BSF Personnel Welfare Association in the city today. Identity cards and telephone directories were distributed to the Association members at the meeting.
