`Antony unwelcome to secular formation'

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 3. The CPI general secretary, A. B. Bardhan, has accused the Chief Minister, A. K. Antony, of having sold himself out to the BJP.

Participating in a `Meet-the-Press' programme here today, Mr. Bardhan said Mr. Antony had disqualified himself from the ranks of secular democratic forces and the likes of him would be `unwelcome to any secular democratic formation'.

Referring to Mr. Antony's statement that the people of Kerala should vote for the UDF rather than the Left because it would be the Congress that would head the secular alternative, the CPI leader said the Left sought votes because it was confident of doing a better job in Parliament and proposed to intervene decisively in the formulation of policies in favour of the poor.

He accused Mr. Antony of having `succumbed' to the BJP and wondered why he was silent about the obsolescence of the Hindutva ideology when speaking about Marxism having become obsolete.
