KOLKATA, MAY 4. DTDC Tollygunge Agragami heightened its relegation fears after being held to a goalless draw by Goa's Vasco SC in a 21st round encounter of the VIII National Football League encounter at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Tuesday. Agragami has 20 points from 21 matches, three-time champion Mohun Bagan has 21 from as many games while Mohd. Sporting has 18 from 19. With Indian Bank already sure of getting relegated, the three Kolkata clubs are fighting to avoid the ignominy. The match was hardly inspiring as neither side showed enough resolve to force a result. In the first session, Vasco saw the crosspiece come in the way to deny Brazilian Marcos Pereira's 44th minute attempt. Agragami showed some initiative in the second session but it all went waste with Akeem Abulalem and Sandip Das squandering goalmouth opportunities. Vasco took its tally to 25 points from 21 games.
Barreto banned
The Indian Football Association, acting on complaint by Mohun Bagan, banned Brazilian striker Jose Barreto from playing in the city for one year. Barreto, who had deserted Bagan mid-season early this year following differences with club officials, had shown his inclination to join East Bengal in the new season. With the National federation AIFF yet to decide on the fate of the Brazilian, who was slapped a fine of Rs. 1 crore by Bagan, apart from being suspended, the local body decided to impose the penalty on Barreto.
