By S. Nadarajan

PONDICHERRY, MAY 4. The strength of voters in the Union Territory of Pondicherry, going to Lok Sabha poll on May 10, is 6,36,667. In the 1999 poll it was 7,01,990. There is a steep fall in the strength — 65,323 voters.

The present figure has been arrived at after the summary revision and updating of the list, according to a brochure brought out by the Department of Elections here.

The number of polling stations has come down to 557 compared to 778 in the last poll, an official source said today.

In this election, there are 21 contestants, including 14 independents.

With 21 in fray, authorities will have to instal two balloting units in each booth as one unit can accommodate only 16 candidates with their symbols.
