HYDERABAD, MAY 4. State Bank of India found the winning touch when it scored a 3-2 win over Young Turks in the A-1 Division hockey league championship match at the Begumpet Police Stadium here on Tuesday. The winner led 2-1 at the break. Centre-forward Manikyala Rao gave Young Turks the lead in the very first minute through a fine solo effort. However, SBI fought back well to level the scores within two minutes when centre-forward Harinath Reddy was on target. That effort gave the bankmen the desired fillip and thrust upfront. Consequently, its forwardline initiated quite a few pleasing forays from both flanks. Not surprisingly, SBI shot into lead in the 18th minute when seasoned campaigner Chandra Kumar got in to the scoring act. In the second session, Young Turks fought back remarkably to level the scores once again through a fine effort from S. Kiran in the 40th minute. But the experience and class of the bank forwardline came to the fore in the dying minutes. The wily and enterprising Surinder Singh sprinted from the left flank to essay a delectable carpet drive to seal the fate of Young Turks.
