Sowjanya triumphs

VIJAYAWADA, MAY 4. T. Sowjanya of Vijayanagar, who drew with V. Srilakshmi in the final round on Tuesday, won the 21st Andhra sub-junior girls (under-15) chess championship with five points at the Viswabharathi High School in Gudivada near here.

Srilakshmi of Guntur, K.S. Ratnamanikyam (Vizag) and G. Sirisha (Champions Chess Academy) were joint second with 4.5 points each and were placed in that order by virtue of progressive scores.

Sub-junior girls: Final round: T. Sowjanya (5) drew with V. Srilakshmi (4.5); G. Sirisha (4.5) bt D. Sahitya (3.5), K.S. Ratnamanikyam (4.5) bt K. Sainirupama (4), N. Alekhya (4) bt Shaik Shabanaz Banu (3), G. Tanuja (3) lost to L.L. Bhargavi (4). (Fourth round): K. Sainirupama (4) lost to T. Sowjanya (4.5), D. Sahiti (3.5) drew with K.S. Ratnamanikyam (3.5), N. Alekhya (3) lost to V. Srilakshmi (4), G. Sirisha (3.5) bt N.Ch. Anusha (3), V. Sindhura (3) bt A.R. Priya (2).

Seniors: seventh round: J. Malleswara Rao (5) lost to K.S. Srikar (6.5), G. Rajeswara Rao (5) lost to D. Lakshmana Rao (6), K.V. Krishna Karthik (5.5) drew with T. Purushothaman (5.5), S.
