Rain frustrates New Zealand

By P. Subramanyam

LONDON, MAY 4. New Zealand cricketers were frustrated by torrential rain for the second day in succession in its opening three-day match against British Universities XI at Fenner's in Cambridge.

Again, the game was abandoned this morning without a ball being bowled. After the umpires decided that no play was possible the disappointed New Zealanders settled down for some indoor practice.

However, on Sunday, at Shenley, skipper Stephen Fleming made a breezy 75 as New Zealand won a one-day friendly game against Professional Cricketers Association Masters XI. New Zealand scored 275 for five and restricted its opponents to 247 for six despite an unbeaten 113 by former West Indies skipper Jimmy Adams.
