UDHAGAMANDALAM, MAY 4. "It is by focussing on education that the people of Pakistan and India can broaden their outlook and vision," observed Air Commodore (retd.) Farooq H. Kiyani, Pakistani educationist and Principal, Lawrence College, Ghora Gali, Muree Hills, Pakistan. He was participating as the chief guest at the 146th Founder's Day celebrations of the Lawrence School, Lovedale, near here today. He said intellectuals, scholars, mediapersons, politicians and educationists ``can play a significant role in promoting peace and amity in the region." Stating that the efforts of the Prime Ministers, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, (Mr. Jamali is an alumnus of the Lawrence College, Muree) to normalise relations between India and Pakistan were praiseworthy, he said: "We must seize this opportunity and play our role in fostering good relations between the people of the two countries." Pointing out that the Lawrence College, Muree, the Lawrence School, Lovedale and the Lawrence School, Sanawar, were sister institutions with the same pre-partition foundation, culture, heritage, traditions and background which were founded by Sir Henry Lawrence, he said that it was heartening to observe that abiding by their 150 years of glorious tradition, these centres of excellence had contributed immensely to the national life of the two countries. The headmaster, Lawrence School, Lovedale, Harsh Wal, said the visit of the Pakistani delegation was the first of its kind after Partition. Ms. Shajidha Kiyani distributed prizes to students who had excelled in various fields.
