Saifuddin Soz criticises Modi campaign

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, MAY 4. Critical of prominent Muslims who have chosen to support the Bharatiya Janata Party, Saifuddin Soz of the Congress has said that Muslims in the country would like to know whether these ``self-seekers'' would justify the BJP's latest decision to send the Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi to Uttar Pradesh ``to consolidate what they call the Hindu vote.''

In a statement issued here on Monday, Mr. Soz said: ``The neo-Muslim leaders are destined to suffer isolation and frustration before they are in a position to render any service to the BJP, for which they have been recruited. People such as Najma Heptullah, who has exhibited her taste for political opportunism and short-sightedness of the worst kind, must know that Muslims are not going to oblige them by supporting the BJP, as they (Muslims) are part of Indian society which is steadfast in its yearning for a strong, united, secular and democratic India and reject the sectarian and communal politics of the BJP.''
