HYDERABAD, MAY 4. The Chief Secretary, Mohan Kanda, today termed as serious the experiments allegedly conducted by some pharmaceutical companies on labourers. A meeting with officials concerned would be convened on Wednesday to decide upon the remedial measures to be taken, he said. Mr. Kanda was responding to a memorandum submitted by the president, K. Krishnamurthy, the general secretary, B. Venkat, and the secretary, V. Venkateswar, of the Andhra Pradesh Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham, according to a press release. The memorandum sought steps by the Government to stop experiments, which, it alleged, were being conducted without the consent of labourers. It also sought action against managements of companies and employment avenues to "victims." The association alleged that the Government did not act though the experiments were a repeat of those conducted last year. It charged the officialdom with colluding with managements. While seeking the Chief Secretary's intervention, the leaders demanded the arrest of representatives of managements of errant companies and filing of cases against them. Among the other demands made by the association was protection and financial support to workers.
