KARIMNAGAR, MAY 4. The Karimnagar district Collector, Sumita Dawra, has submitted a proposal to the Commissioner for Disaster Management to release an amount of Rs. 1.82 crores for distribution of relief to farmers affected by the recent hailstorm in the district. In a press note here on Monday, Ms. Dawra said that the hailstorm had affected a total of 381 villages spread over 31 mandals causing damage to crops in over 11,470.17 hectares of land belonging to 26,835 farmers. She stated that paddy crop was damaged in 8817.22 hectares, maize in 29.45 hectares, green gram (11.10), jowar (0.40), groundnut (0.65), cotton (3.40), seasamum (159.44) and bajra in 13.20 hectares. In the horticulture sector, mango crop was lost in 2095.99 hectares, vegetables (200.50), citrus (71.58), banana (one), watermelon (41.07) and chillies in 25.17 hectares. Earlier, the administration received an amount of Rs. 67.40 lakhs for payment of relief to farmers who had lost their crops in 3,548.19 hectares during the hailstorm from March 30 to April first week in the district. She said distribution of relief was under process.
