Tiruvallur Collector transferred

By Our Legal Correspondent

NEW DELHI, MAY 4. The Election Commission (EC) today ordered the transfer of the Tiruvallur Collector, S. Chandramohan, on grounds of ``large-scale mismanagement'' of training of polling staff and the task to be performed by him as polling officer. (S.K. Prabhakar has been appointed in his place.)

The Madras Collector and the Madurai Police Commissioner were shifted out of their posts by the EC last month.

Protection to Rajnikant fans

The Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary has informed the EC that the State Government will provide adequate protection to the fans of actor Rajnikant. He complained to the EC that he apprehended a threat to and attack on his fans by Pattali Makkal Katchi volunteers.

To the Commission's query why no preventive action was not taken in respect of the April 2 Madurai incident, in which Rajnikant fans were attacked, the Chief Secretary said the government was conducting an enquiry and necessary action would be taken in case of any lapse.
