By Our Staff Reporter
VIJAYAWADA, MAY 4. A first-of-its-kind computer software system enabling the city police to effectively track and monitor the complaints lodged by the people was inaugurated by the Director-General of Police, S.R. Sukumara, at the police control room on Tuesday. In addition to tracking down hoax and mischievous telephone calls, the new system, developed at a cost of Rs. 22 lakhs, will help the police initiate follow up action on the complaints received by them. Once a complaint is registered through 100, the identity of the caller and the origin of the call will be instantly recorded in the computerised network. This, in turn, will help the police in alerting the Rakshak patrol vehicles as well as the local police concerned for providing instant assistance to the victims. The system has also been connected to the existing LAN system of the Police Commissionerate for enabling the City Police Commissioner to directly access the complaints received and monitor the performance of the police personnel. Speaking to reporters after the launch, Mr. Sukumara described the new system as a "major achievement and most modern concept'' in the entire State. He complimented the City Police Commissioner, A.B. Venkateswara Rao, for pursuing the project and taking steps to bring down the cost from Rs. 45 lakhs to Rs 22 lakhs. He also lauded the city police and the public for ensuing a trouble-free elections in Vijayawada city. "In fact, it is a pleasant surprise that not a single incident took place nor was there any repoll in this city which is otherwise known to be a troublesome place,'' he remarked and the said the credit should go to Mr. Rao. The DGP also inaugurated an EPBAX system at the Police Commissionerate to provide linkages to 65 senior police officials in the city. The Additional DGP (Provisions and Logistics), R.R. Girish Kumar, the Director of Police Communications, S.K. Jayachandra, the Managing Director of the AP Police Housing Corporation, Kamal Kumar and the Eluru Range, DIG, C.V. Narasaiah, were present at the function. At a function organised later in the evening in connection with the award of ISO 9001 certification to the AP Police Housing Corporation, Mr. Sukumara distributed mementos to the corporation personnel for their contribution in achieving the distinction.
