Around the City

Cloudy sky

CHENNAI, MAY 4. The sky will be generally cloudy on Wednesday with few showers or thundershowers in the city.

On Tuesday, Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 31.5 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24.6 degree Celsius. It recorded a rainfall of 4 mm.

Meenambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 30.4 degree Celsius and a minimum of 24 degree Celsius. Rainfall recorded was 0.4 mm. Humidity stood at 83 and 80 per cent.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended in parts of Mannady and T.V.Pet areas on Thursday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance work.

Summer camp

The Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre, in collaboration with MTS Academy, is organising a five-day summer camp for students between classes VII and IX on personality development, from May 24. The programme will be held at the Periyar Science and Technology Centre.

Talks on goal setting, effective communication, time and stress management, yoga and meditation, presentation techniques, creative ability will form part of the camp activities. Yoga

Krishnayogam, disciple of Paramahamsa Satyananda Saraswati, will conduct a one-month yoga programme for men and women. It will begin on May 9 at the Bala Vidya Higher Secondary School, 30, Vasudevapuram, West Mambalam. The regular classes are from 5.30 a.m. to 7 a.m. daily. The free classes are aimed at physical, mental and spiritual health and are conducted in adherence to the Bihar School of Yoga curriculum. Details for registration over phone (9444040061/2474 6974).

Results

The results of the semester examinations of Loyola College held in April (for regular students only) will be published on May 7 on its web site www.loyolacollege.edu.

Pollution level

The respirable suspended particulate matter, particulate matter, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide were well within the permissible limits during the 24-hour period between May 3 and 4 at Kilpauk and Vallalar Nagar residential areas. The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board monitored the air quality. There was moderate rainfall during the sampling period.
