Another institute raided

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, MAY 4. The Crime Branch of the Delhi police today raided another coaching institute, Sankalp, at Kalkaji in South Delhi after one of the accused in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) All India Pre-Medical Test paper leak case disclosed that the institute head and some faculty members had helped the gang in solving the papers. While the operation went on till late tonight, the police were planning to arrest the institute head and some of his staff members.

According to the police, the institute's involvement in the paper leak case came to light during the interrogation of Rajeev Ranjan, who was arrested a day ago from Patna at the instance of the main accused, Ranjit Verma. Rajeev disclosed that he had struck a deal with the institute head, Surender Singh, to provide experts for solving the PMT papers against a payment of about Rs. 2.5 lakhs.

He further revealed that last year when Ranjit had leaked the PMT papers, he had arranged some people from Laxmi Nagar in East Delhi to solve them. However, later it turned out that they had ticked several wrong answers, due to which many of the candidates -- who had bought the answers from the accused, -- did not clear the test. At his instance, the police have also launched a hunt for those "experts".

The police have also learnt that before joining Ranjit, Rajeev was in touch with Rajeev Babu, who has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for alleging running a paper leak racket. Further investigations into Rajeev's involvement are on.

Meanwhile, the CBI today secured two more days of custody of the former Investigating Officer of the paper leak case, Sub-Inspector Sanjay Gupta, and Constable Umed Singh. The CBI submitted before the court that it had recovered some incriminating documents from Gupta's residence, which included some medico-legal reports.
