NDA Govt. has given political stability, says Advani

By Our Staff Reporter

The Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, with the BJP candidate from Karol Bagh, Anita Arya, at an election rally on Tuesday.

NEW DELHI, MAY 4. Impressing upon the electorate to give one more chance to the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, to finish the unfinished agenda, the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K.Advani, today said that the Vajpayee Government had been successful in providing the much required "political stability'' to the country during the past six years of its rule.

"Not only has the Vajpayee regime provided political stability, it has also been successful in dealing with the problem of proxy war waged by our neighbours besides improving relations with Pakistan in order to bring peace and harmony to the region. This was not the case when we took over in 1998 and this is one of our biggest achievements,'' Mr. Advani remarked while addressing a public meeting at Karol Bagh in favour of the party candidate, Anita Arya. Later, Mr. Advani also addressed a meeting in the Delhi Sadar constituency from where the Union Minister, Vijay Goel, is contesting. This has been an extended tour of the Capital by the Deputy Prime Minister in view of the special request made by the local party unit.

Mr. Advani said that some of the agenda had been left unfinished and the NDA Government should be given another chance to finish that task. "It is important the Mr. Vajpayee should be installed as Prime Minister of the country to avoid any kind of political instability,'' he added. Elaborating further on the issue of political stability, Mr. Advani said that between 1989 to 1998, the country had six Prime Ministers. However, during the past six years, there has been one Prime Minister who has provided an efficient and effective administration. Asserting that fast track development of the country had become a major election issue for the first time in any general election, Mr.Advani said that if the NDA Government was voted to power, it would strive to make India a developed nation by 2020. "We assure you that all the six lakh villages of the country would be provided water, electricity and roads. The BJP is of the opinion that only `gram uday' could lead to `Bharat Uday' at all levels,'' he added.

He said "Bijli Sadak Pani'' (BSP) had become a major election issue and governments that had failed to tackle this problem were voted out of power during the last Assembly elections. It is to the credit of the Vajpayee Government that a vast road network had been put in place and inter-linking of national highways and rivers had been undertaken. "With the inter-linking of rivers, the country would be rid of the problem of water shortage both for irrigation and drinking purposes.''

Dwelling on his relationship with Mr. Vajpayee, Mr. Advani said there was hardly any example where political colleagues of a leading political set-up have stayed together through thick and thin for the past more than fifty years. "It is unfortunate that the Congress party including its president, Sonia Gandhi, have been taking pot shots at Mr. Vajpayee and hitting below the belt at someone who is adored by the people of this country and abroad,'' he said.
