BANGALORE, MAY 4. The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) will soon decide on the maintenance of the Kanagal Puttanna theatre at Jayanagar, the Mayor, P.R. Ramesh, said here on Tuesday. He promised a delegation of Kannada film stars and television artistes that the theatre would be renovated. "The theatre is in a bad condition. We will first consult experts and refurbish its interiors. Later, we will decide whether to let it out to a private party or run it ourselves," he said. The theatre stopped screening films from April 30 after the Government decided to close the Karnataka Film Industrial Corporation (KFIDC). The theatre, which was leased to the KFIDC by the BMP in 1985, was returned to the civic body on the same day. Mr. Ramesh said that the BMP had no plan to demolish the theatre and construct a commercial complex there. Earlier, the delegation urged the Mayor to name the stretch of the Ring Road from Nayandanahalli to J.P. Nagar after Kannada actor Ambarish. The Mayor assured it that the proposal would be placed before the BMP Council for its approval.
