Mystery shrouds death of man, son

BANGALORE, MAY 4. A 53-year-old man and his son were found dead under mysterious circumstances in the Doddaballapur Town police station limits in Bangalore Rural district on Tuesday.

The police said the body of Venkateshappa, a clerk in the taluk office, was found at his house in Basaveshwaranagar in Doddaballapur town. The body of Venkateshappa's son, Srinath (17), was found on agricultural land on the outskirts of the town.

Venkateshappa's brother, Hanume Gowda, has lodged complaint in the Doddaballapur police station that his brother and nephew died unnatural deaths, probably of strangulation. There were no external injuries on the bodies except a few bruises.

The police have registered a case of unnatural death and sent the bodies for autopsy. They suspect that Venkateshappa and his son were murdered over a property matter.

Rape: A woman was gang-raped at Talekatte in the Soladevanahalli police station limits last week. The accused, Nagaraja (29), Manjunath (23), and Mali alias Manjunath (20), have been arrested.

According to the police, the three persons, who were going in an autorickshaw, stopped the woman, who had alighted from a bus at Lakshmipura Cross at about 8.30 p.m. They allegedly took her in the autorickshaw to Talekatte and raped her. Nagaraja was arrested on May 3, Manjunath on April 28, and Mali on April 29. The three were remanded to judicial custody, the police said.

Two die in accidents: Venugopal (41) of Maruthisevanagar, who was riding a motorcycle, died when he was knocked down by a van near FTI Circle in the Yeshwantpur police station limits on Monday afternoon.

In an accident reported from the Hebbal police station limits, Manjunath (37) of Naragonahalli in Devanahalli, who was riding a motorcycle, was knocked down and run over by a truck near Bagalur Cross on Monday afternoon.

Run over by trains: Two 25-year-old youths were run over by trains near the Malleswaram railway station in the past two days. One of them, identified as Girish of Mudugere in Chikmagalur district, died on Monday. The body of the other youth, who died on Tuesday, has not been identified. The Railway police have registered cases.

Two cases of suicide: Premila (22) reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her house at Ullala, off Mysore Road, on Monday night. The reason is not known. The Tavarekere police have registered a case.

Kumar (17), son of Ramachandrappa, a businessman, reportedly ended his life by hanging himself at his house at Cubbonpet on Monday. The Ulsoor Gate police have registered a case.

Falls to death: Kannan (30), a labourer, died when he fell while climbing the steps of a building near the Dharmaraya Temple in Ulsoor Gate police station limits on Monday night. The police said Kannan was drunk. He was from Kallakurchi in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu.

Arrested on theft charge: The R.T. Nagar police have recovered gold and diamond jewellery, CD players, cameras, wristwatches, and other articles, in all worth about Rs. 8.5 lakh, and arrested Ravi (24) of L.B.S. Nagar, Yelahanka, on theft charge.

The police said the articles recovered were reported stolen from the R.T. Nagar, Yelahanka, Yelahanka New Town, Hennur, and Banaswadi police station limits. The accused, who was arrested near Ganganagar market in R.T. Nagar, was remanded to judicial custody.

The Yeshwanthpur police have arrested Shankar alias Gunda (25) of Nandini Layout and recovered gold jewellery, mobile phones, and car stereos, in all worth about Rs. 3 lakh.
